The Arts on the Eastern Shore of Virginia

ARTS ENTERArts Enter is Cape Charles’ answer to “What do you want to do tonight?” housed in the refurbished Palace Theater on Cape Charles’ eclectic Mason Ave., Arts Enter and its myriad volunteers have provided this small Victorian town with cultural fair hard come by even in big cities. Clelia Sheppard and her bevy of talented and dedicated volunteers teach, sing, dance, act, paint, draw, carve, design, and book something exciting for almost every weekend of the year. From local artisans to the famed Virginia Symphony, Arts Enter is a treasure the Shore could not do without.

ESO: Or “Eastern Shore’s Own” Arts Center, founded in 1984, is located in the old Belle Haven. The ESO Art Center is the only facility serving Northampton and Accomack Counties whose purpose is the development, instruction, and performance of the visual, graphic, theatrical, and musical arts. ESO is dedicated to providing an opportunity for all people of the Eastern Shore of Virginia to actively participate in the arts.

THE ARTISANS GUILDThe Eastern Shore’s Artisans Guild is just one of the many arts association here on the Shore that make art a part of our daily lives. This surprisingly large guild has over fifty members including furniture craftspeople, bronze workers, carvers, and many other artisans. They are focused on a mentoring program for high school students interested in arts and crafts.

THE ARTS ALLIANCE: Here is where it all comes together. Arts Alliance is a coming together of the Arts Council of the Eastern Shore (ACES) and many of the area’s theaters, gallareys, and guilds in order to support each other and arrange events. The alliance has been extremely successful and generally has an entire section of The Eastern Shore News dedicated to art happenings at least once a month.
